Lyndon Firman-Sadler

PhD Candidate

  • PhD (Psychology), 2022 – current (Deakin University)
  • BPsychSc (Hons), 2015 – 2018 (Deakin University)

I am a PhD candidate, entering my second year of research, as well as a casual teaching academic within Deakin University’s School of Psychology. My research, as a member of the NMI lab, is focused on the sequelae experienced by stroke survivors, particularly symptoms affecting their cognitive abilities and mental health. To achieve my research goals, I will be employing novel techniques and technologies. Specifically, in collaboration with St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, we will be running a first-of-its-kind, combined ecological momentary assessment and magnetic resonance imaging study. Additionally, the data collected in this study will be analysed using an advanced network analysis, in which psychological and neuroscience data will be integrated into a unified network. I have been fortunate early on in my candidature to begin several collaborations, including with international researchers, on projects relating to neurodegeneration, multimodal neuroimaging, and advanced statistical analyses. More broadly, I am interested in research into the neural substrates of consciousness, machine learning, and psychological approaches to improving wellbeing, such as meditation.

I have taught the following undergraduate units at Deakin University:
●  Introduction to Psychology: Human Behaviour (first-year unit)
●  Introduction to Psychology: Individual and Social Development (first-year unit)
●  Foundations in Psychological Practice (first-year unit)
●  Health Behaviour (first-year unit)
●  Addiction (third-year unit)E lyndon.firmansadler at deakin.edu.au
