I am a PhD student within the Cognitive Neuroscience Unit at Deakin University. My research aims to investigate whether we can utilise advanced lesion mapping techniques on anatomical MRI scans to improve the prediction of long-term cognitive outcomes in patients with moderate-to-severe Traumatic Brain Injury (ms-TBI). Patients with ms-TBI often have large focal lesions, the presence of which current neuroimaging tools cannot deal with. I am conducting a critical review of the available techniques for improving image pre-processing in the presence of large lesions,. Moreover, I will test a novel method for improving accuracy of spatial parcellation and resulting morphometric measurements in the presence of large focal bilateral lesions.
