I am an expert in applications of advanced multimodal MRI techniques for clinical cohorts, with a current focus on traumatic brain injury resulting from random assaults (Domínguez D., et al, 2022). I am interested in understanding how the complex web of relationships between brain and behaviour is altered in clinical conditions by investigating the interaction between measures from various MR imaging modalities (including structural, diffusion and functional imaging as well as magnetic susceptibility), and from the motor, cognitive and affective domains. I am also interested in developing personalized profiles across all these brain and behaviour measures to shed light on how they interact in individual patients [Imms et al., 2022, Network Neurosience; Clemente et al., In press, Brain Research]. My work on both these areas of interest is aimed at better understanding different clinical cohorts not only at the group level but, critically, at the individual level. The purpose of this is to aid clinicians in assessing the impact of these various conditions on the daily functioning and mental health of individual patients, as well as designing personalized and neuroscience guided rehabilitation programs that are therefore more efficient and efficacious. As part of this work, I am involved in developing STREAMLINES, a novel integrative, personalized translational medicine e-platform for neuroscience-guided evaluation and treatment. STREAMLINES stands for Single-subjecT pRofiling of cognitivE impAirMents, affective deficits, structuraL braIN alterationS and bio-specimens. I have published 38 papers that have been cited ~1500 times (h-index 22).
